Description

ISRAELI STYLE SAVORY HAMANTASCHEN – Favorite Purim holiday treat but in savory!


Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup nut oil (walnut, almond) or olive oil
  • 2 flax eggs (2 tbsp flax meal + 3/4 cup water). Let sit for 10 min
  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (you can also mix whole wheat flour and regular flour)
  • 1 cup of almond flour
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1½ cup tomato sauce, matbucha or any savory topping pureed. You can use the preparation for my shakshuka (recipe on my blog)

Instructions

  1. Mix together flax egg, oil, and sugar.
  2. Add 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of almond flour and salt and stir until a smooth dough is formed.
  3. Add spoons of flour if too moist.
  4. Cut circles using a cookie cutter or a glass cup.
  5. Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of the circles and pinch or fold to form a triangle.
  6. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Keep un a jar or in the freezer. If too soft, reheat at 350F for a few minutes.
